Nick Cavill is Research Associate with the British Heart Foundation Health Promotion Research Group, as well as being an independent consultant in health promotion, specialising in the development of policy and programmes on physical activity and sustainable transport.
Nick set up a consultancy in 2000 with others in the field to offer advice to health agencies and Government departments in the UK and overseas. Clients have included the World Health Organization, Department of Health, the Department of Transport Local Government and the Regions, the Department for Education and Skills, the National Institute for Health and Clinical Excellence, the British Heart Foundation, the Health Development Agency, Sport England, Countryside Agency, the Ramblers, the European Heart Forum and the University of Westminster. This followed over ten years working in the Health Education Authority,where he was head of the physical activity programme from 1994 - 2000. He led the planning, launch and execution of the £9m 'Active for Life' campaign, including major PR, advertising and research contracts. More recently, he was campaign advisor to DTLR, where he co-ordinated the transport aspects of the £25m 'Are you doing your bit?' campaign.
Nick's current roles include project manager of the Collaborating Centre team for the National Institute for Health Clinical Excellence (with others in the BHFHPRG), health promotion advisor to Cycling England; and a member of WHO's virtual expert group on physical activity.
